Natalie found a whitewater rafting camp in Bosnia and Herzegovina which looked fun and we'd spend the rest of our time in Montenegro. We were picked up at the airport in Podgorica, Montenegro by our driver who only had one eye and I don't remember speaking any English. Didn't want to ask him about how he lost his eye and hoped it didn't effect his driving ability.
A note that both in this post and the Canary Islands one, if pictures look better than mine usually do, it's because I stole them from Natalie who is very talented at taking and editing photos...that is all.

More of my bad photos...
Something that looks like it's out of a James Bond movie
And into the Federation of Bosnia Herzegovina we go
Also known as the Republic of Srpska
The place was called Drina Tara for the Tara River Canyon which is the deepest canyon in Europe. The place was really nice and had great food. The people were also very nice to us and wouldn't accept tips which I think is more of a cultural thing than their liking of the USA or us as individuals.
"Hey USA, it's dinner time!"
It was really good food

The next day was rafting and I had left the battery in my GoPro so it was pretty much dead but I managed to get a few (bad) pictures in but no video. The river was that heavy because their rainy season wasn't for a couple of months. It was still fun though. There were a couple of older German guys who had driven, yes driven, down because they were expert kayakers and were here to check out the river before giving it a go on their own. They had all the typical fancy gadgets you'd expect from Germans. There were also two British guys who were pathetic when it came to paddling. The guide only knew a few words in English including our commands of "Strrrong!" which meant all forward and of course "Right" and "Left." His accent was heavy and we got a kick out of his screaming orders at us.
Oh the water spot, the mortal enemy of the GoPro...
The next day we headed back to Montenegro with our one-eyed driver.
Once at the airport, we rented a car to drive to Budva, a 3,500 year old coastal town on the Adriatic. It was a beautiful afternoon and evening as we walked through the "Old Town."
Driving through the Montenegrin countryside
Lake Skadar/Scutari/Shkodër which borders Albania
There coastline is what you'd expect from the Adriatic (think Croatia) and has white buildings with orange tile roofs everywhere. A picturesque town is Sveti Stefan
I enjoyed it very much
Once in Budva, we went to the Old Town which is a walled off portion common of ancient towns.
Sara enjoying Budva
I was hoping that disco was dead, but Studio 54 lives on!

The fanny pack made it to the Balkans!

We then decided to have some drinks by the sea and enjoy the afternoon by the Adriatic
Montenegrin beer
We headed to some fancy hotel that had a casino for dinner and some gambling. You can't take pictures in the casino but I can guarantee you I lost money just like every time I've ever gambled...ever
They had one heck of a wine list
It was definitely an interesting trip with great company. I seem to enjoy these "off the beaten path" an awful lot. And a big thanks to Natalie for taking much better pictures than I ever could.
